UX Researcher Warm-up

This document describes the steps to take to get started with working in the product group.

1) Learn about the product

2) Review the design documents for the product

Look at the Product function chart (Product function chart to get an idea of how the product is structured.

To understand the detail design of the product refer to the Product Design Document (PRD). You don't need to read the whole document, but just understand what the product is like.

When reading through the PRD document, you will find images of designs. You can find the detailed pages at full resolution here.

3) Try out Demo version of the product

After you have a general understanding of the product. Follow these guidelinesto download the demo version of our App product.

4) Install software needed to work in the Product group

The list of software needed to work in the Product group is found in this document.

5) Write about what you understood from experiencing our product

In a PowerPoint presentation, explain what you understood from learning about our product from points 2-4. Based on your understanding, try to cover the following points in the presentation:

  • What is our product?
  • What is important for our product?
  • What are the main functions of our product?

6) Learn how to work in the product group

To understand the workflow within the product group, you will first need to learn about the DevOps workflow.

When working in the product group, you will be assigned issues than come from the workflows described above. In each issue, there will be a detailed description of the issue and deliverables at the end of the issue. Make sure you first understand how to use Gitlab and working with issues within Gitlab.

7) Learn the basics of Axure

our product UI and UX are designed in Axure. You need to understand the basics of this software . There are many free tutorials online and you are free to choose what you see fit. For an Axure tutorial see this tutorial.

8) Design a Log in/Sign up page for our product

Ignoring the current design of the Log in and Sign up design of our product, create a UX design of our product Log in/Sign up pages in Axure.

Your design needs to contain the following:

  • Have both email and phone log in/sign up.
  • Have third party log in.
  • Reset password function.
  • Have interactions such as page transitions and text field logic.

The design should be a wireframe and does not have to contain detailed UI design.

Once you finish the design, submit your .rp file as "warmup-design-[your name]-YYMMDD[date submitted].rp"

9) Create a PowerPoint presentation

Create a PowerPoint describing all the steps of the Product development process. Based on your role, describe which steps will you be mainly focused on and what kind of work you envision you'll be doing in the future. For example, a UX designer will mainly be responsible for the Problem validation phase and design phase of the process.

In the presentation you should cover the following points:

  • What is our product?
  • What is important for our product?
  • What are the main functions of our product?
  • The steps of our Product development process and the purpose of each step.
  • Your envisioned role and responsibilities in the product team.
  • An overview of your Axure design, discussing the logic behind the design.

After you finish making the PowerPoint, name it according to this:

  • product-warmup-[your name]-YYMMDD[date submitted].pptx Eg. product-warmup-name-201230.pptx
